I didn't conquer the mountain ...
the mountain conquered me
Meet Michele Moss Donsky – mother, wife, adventurer, and physician extraordinaire. Yup. Beneath the funky hats and trendy glasses lies a gifted healer who brings old school presence and state of the art practice to the bedside of each and every patient she sees. But this is not enough for Michele who dedicates much of her life to community initiatives, promoting the kind of engagement that speaks of a true humanitarian.
This past August, Michele wrote the following, “After running a few marathons, I have decided to step it up...literally...and will be climbing Kilimanjaro in August.” Her mission was to raise funds for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation in the process. But the adventure turned to trauma when she developed Acute Mountain Sickness and severe asthma at 15,000 feet and had to be medevacuated off the mountain to receive emergency medical treatment. Only Michele would send a letter of apology to her supporters thereafter.
But that’s not all she did. She paid her incredible care forward with a donation to Art à la Carte in honour of the Global Rescue team who skillfully air lifted her off Kilimanjaro. This in turn, put our organization in the face of an esteemed international agency whose public relations manager took note and posted the entire story to their blog.
You may not have conquered the mountain, Michele, but you are one amazing woman. We at Art à la Carte salute you, funky hats and all. Thank you for your courageous support of so many worthy causes.
P.S. Michele’s daughter, Talia, began volunteering with our bedside program as a grade 10 student. She is now finishing her university degree and remains a passionate advocate for numerous charitable endeavours. Like mother like daughter!
