Articipation
A joyful arts festival and homecoming for Cancervive
Articipation paved the way for three great organizations to play together while raising awareness for programs that support people living with cancer. Hosted by Art à la Carte, the event was a morphed version of our previous signature Scream Run with plenty of activities for all to enjoy. While there was still an opportunity to partake in a 4K walk through beautiful Sandy Beach, this year's focus shifted from athleticism to art. Guests had the opportunity to have caricatures drawn, create their own prints and trading cards, join in a group PaintFest, enjoy the work of photographers and exhibitors or have their faces painted while bopping to the funk soul sound of URBANdivide band.

Emotions ran high as Judy Atkinson lifted us up as one voice, one heartbeat in a soulful drumming ceremony that accompanied the presentation of medals to each of the Cancervive riders and warriors. The medals were hand-crafted by Studio C, an artist's guild for people with disabilities. We were honoured to have Calgary Flames Alumnus, Jamie Hislop, in attendance to shake every hand as the Cancervive participants crossed the stage affirming that there is life with cancer.

To all the volunteers, sponsors, artists, vendors and guests, we extend heartfelt appreciation. In the words of cancer survivor, Rita Egizii, "Articipation had all the right symbolism – cancer survivors and warriors representing Wellspring Calgary, cyclists representing Cancervive, the wonderful art activities representing Art à la Carte and then the walk — symbolizing a coming together of everything we all stand for."
Every so often we need to be reminded that cancer is a word not a sentence.
